A quick overview of my career:
1977…First professional position, during college years, at Serigraphics as a designer/illustrator of concert and promotional poster art.
1977-1983… Instructor at the Arts and Crafts Center, Ft. Benjamin Harrison.
1982…Created my Captain Cartoon identity, performing as a caricaturist at events, leading to appearances on local TV programs. (My Captain Cartoon persona helped me gain an interview with Garfield’s Jim Davis)
1983-Present…Employed by Jim Davis to pencil the Garfield comic strip, and create art for licensing, TV specials, books, ect. In 2003, went from a salaried position to a freelance contract to move to Florida in pursuit of a teaching position at the Ringling College of Art and Design.
2004-2020…Adjunct Faculty in the Illustration Dept. at the Ringling College of Art and Design.
Sept. 1st, 2020-Present…Full-time Faculty in the Illustration Dept. at Ringling College of Art and Design.
Additional:
1988-1993…Freelanced comic art, primarily as a penciler, for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and others.
2009…Credited in the movie, Garfield’s Pet Force, for co-development of the characters and creating the interior comic book pages that Nermal looks at in the film.
2012-2014…Freelanced comic art on the Garfield comic book for BOOM Studios, under their Kaboom imprint.
